Birmingham Man Dies 4 Days After Car Crash In Warrior
A 24-year-old man whose car crashed during a chase with police has died at UAB Hospital.
JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL - A 24-year-old man who was involved in a chase with police last week has died. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Jamaica Shabazz Harris.
An Alabama Media Group report said Gardendale police were summoned to Michael Drive Thursday afternoon on a report of a suspicious vehicle driving in and out of driveways in the neighborhood. The vehicle was occupied by the driver – Harris – and a male passenger.
An officer spoke briefly with Harris and then Harris reportedly sped off. A pursuit was launched, with officers from Kimberly and Warrior joining in.

At 3:23 p.m., Harris crashed in the 1800 block of Corner Road near Warrior. He had to be extricated from the vehicle and was then transported by Warrior rescue workers to UAB Hospital. The passenger was also injured, but his injuries weren’t life-threatening.
Harris was pronounced dead Monday at 2:48 p.m.
