Birmingham May Apply To Host 2020 Democratic National Convention
Birmingham was asked by the Democratic National Committee to submit a bid to host the 2020 convention.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Birmingham has been asked by the Democratic National Committee to throw the city's name in the hat to host the 2020 Democratic National Convention. The city submitted an unsuccessful bid to host the convention in 2016.
According to a report by Alabama Media Group, DNC chair Tom Perez asked the city in a letter last month to "consider" vying for the 2020 convention, which he called "an historic event that could shape the future of Birmingham for years to come."

Mayor Randall Woodfin said via social media, "We are very excited that the Democratic Party has recognized the City of Birmingham as an attractive, possible site for the 2020 DNC."
He added, "If we decide to compete, the application process will be handled by internal staff. In 2014, the City of Birmingham paid external partners to help with the bid package for the 2016 DNC. Birmingham paid $275,000. We will not have new contracts to pursue the nomination."
