Birmingham Mayor Pledges Support For Whatever The Outcome Will Be On Union Vote In Bessemer

As mayor of Birmingham, I serve residents who work at the fulfillment center in Bessemer. The decision to unionize the fulfillment center should rightfully be driven by what the respective workers believe is best for themselves and their families.

Let me be clear – my voice is not nearly as important as the voice of our workers. I am just as committed to the residents who wish to organize as I am to those who do not, so whatever decision our workers choose will have my steadfast support.

Birmingham is open for business and our track record of creating jobs proves this. I have an obligation as chief growth officer and a voice for workers to ensure the prosperity that industry brings to Birmingham is shared with our workers. If collective bargaining is the path to empowerment our workers chose, they have my support in exercising this right.

I remain committed to securing quality, high-paying jobs for Birmingham residents. I look forward to continuing to serve as a trusted partner with our business community and Birmingham residents to preserve our standing as the industrial heartbeat of Alabama and the South.
