Birmingham To Open Warming Station Monday and Tuesday Night

BIRMINGHAM, AL —With temperatures in the region expected to dip below freezing, the City of Birmingham —in collaboration with the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex (BJCC) — has announced it will open a warming station to the public on Monday and Tuesday night.

Beginning at 5 p.m. Monday, and lasting until 8 a.m. Tuesday, those needing warm shelter will be welcome at the South Exhibition Hall at the BJCC, 2100 Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. The warming station also will open from 5 p.m. Tuesday to 8 a.m. Wednesday, the city said.

Additionally, those seeking shelter can reach out to the Salvation Army, which runs multiple facilities. The Firehouse Shelter, for men, is located at 626 Second Ave. North, while First Light, for women, is at 2230 Fourth Ave. North. This program is operated in partnership with One Roof.

According to the National Weather Service, the high temperature in Birmingham on Monday afternoon will be 49 degrees. On Monday night, the forecast calls for clear skies but a low of 28 degrees.

Tuesday afternoon's high is 50 degrees, with a low of 31 degrees, and clear skies, forecast for Tuesday night.
