Birmingham Police Investigating Weekend Homicides

The Birmingham PD is investigating the fourth murder in as many days, with three of them in Ensley over the weekend.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - So far, 2018 has been less than ideal for the Birmingham Police Department and residents of the city hoping for a much safer year. There have already been 10 homicides in Birmingham in 2018, with four of them happening in the last four days.

Birmingham police reported they are investigating a shooting on Sunday in Ensley, where officers found a deceased victim in his 50’s. No arrests have been made at this time. This was not the only Ensley shooting that occurred this weekend.

Earlier in the weekend, a teen was killed in Ensley just blocks from where Sunday's victim was found. Michael Lee, 17, was killed during an exchange of gunfire between two vehicles at Birmingham's McAlpine Park. Friday morning, another Enlsey shooting occurred, this time on the 1000 block of 46th Street in Ensley at about 9:15 a.m. Ricky Parker, 58, was found dead in the backyard of his home from an apparent gunshot wound.

Saturday, officers responded to a shooting in a park near the 2000 block of 28th Street. A male victim was taken to the hospital where he died from his wounds. A person has been detained in the incident.

The four shootings over the weekend mark 10 total homicides in Birmingham already in the year.
