Birmingham Police Officer Injured On I-59

The officer working a car accident on I-59 was struck by a passing vehicle early Friday morning and sustained serious injuries.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - A Birmingham police offer was seriously injured when he was struck by another vehicle on I-59. The incident occurred just before 6 a.m. Friday morning.

A report by Alabama Media Group said police officer was working the scene of an accident and was outside of his patrol car, when a passing vehicle struck him. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Services responded at 5:52 a.m. to an area of I-59 just before the Roebuck exit on the southbound side of the roadway.

The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and was cooperative with law enforcement.
