Birmingham Police Officer John Finke Released From Hospital

A Birmingham police officer shot multiple times in the line of duty has been released from the hospital.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Birmingham police officer John Finke, who was shot multiple times while investigating a robbery case Jan 26 was released from UAB Hospital Sunday, police said. Finke had undergone multiple surgeries for his wounds and had been hospitalized for a week.

Finke was working security at Church of the Highlands in Woodlawn and was shot after he confronted two robbery suspects.

Chris Leon Burke, 25, and 16-year-old Jahmari Leshaun Wright were located in the 2200 block of Bessemer Road shortly after the shooting and taken into custody. Responding officers located property that was reported taken during the robbery along with a handgun.

Finke, a 14-year police veteran, is recovering at his home and undergoing physical therapy.
