BIRMINGHAM, AL — Four Birmingham Police Officers from the East Precinct have tested positive for COVID-19. East Precinct has been temporarily closed for decontamination and deep cleansing as a result.

Sgt. Rod Mauldin of the Birmingham Police Department said Wednesday that the department has provided additional testing for all East Precinct officers to assure the safety of officers and the community, and personnel will resume operations at the East Precinct after the decontamination process is complete.

Concerns over law enforcement and jail inmates in regard to the virus have prompted more testing in the department and at Jefferson County Jail.
