Birmingham Ranked Among Cities Most In Need Of COVID-19 Vaccine

A recent study shows Birmingham in the top 5 among a list of cities most in need of the COVID-19 vaccine.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — As initial doses of the COVID-19 vaccine are being distributed throughout the country, a recent study shows that Birmingham is among the cities most on need of those doses.

A study by financial wellness website WalletHub was released last week revealing the Cities That Need the Most Initial Vaccinations Against COVID-19.

In order to determine the cities that will need the most initial COVID 19 vaccinations, WalletHub compared more than 90 large cities across 13 key metrics. Our data set looks at factors like each city’s share of frontline health care workers, nursing home residents, essential workers, residents diagnosed with various diseases and more.

Initial Need for COVID-19 Vaccinations in Birmingham (1=Most; 47=Avg.):

  • 18th – Share of Health Care Workers
  • 15th – Share of Population Aged 65 & Older
  • 4th – Share of Adult Population Diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease
  • 4th – Share of Adult Population Diagnosed with Cardiovascular Disease
  • 3rd – Share of Adult Population Diagnosed with Diabetes
  • 7th – Share of Adult Population Diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
  • 10th – Share of Adult Population Diagnosed with Asthma
  • 2nd – Share of Adult Population Diagnosed with Hypertension
  • 4th – Share of Obese Adult Population
