Birmingham School Board Elections Result in Runoffs, and a Recount
The Birmingham School Board elections resulted in a few runoffs, and one recount in District 2.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - In addition to voting for Birmingham's mayor and city council seats, Birmingham voters also voted for members of the city's school board Tuesday, and some of those seats are now filled, while others still have yet to be determined. Outright winners were Mary Boehm (District 3), Cheri Gardner (District 6) and Sandra Brown (District 9). All of the other races will be decided in the Oct. 3 runoff, except for the District 2 race, which only had two candidates and the race is still too close to call without a recount.
Brandon McCray and Terri Michal each finished with 50 percent of the vote in District 2, with all precincts reporting in. The unofficial count Tuesday night saw Terri Michal with 1,717 votes to Brandon McCray’s 1,705, separated by a margin of just 12 votes. Provisional ballots, which will be added to the official count next Tuesday, will decide the outcome.
