Birmingham Schools Superintendent Leaving For Atlanta
Dr. Lisa Herring has been announced as the sole finalist for the superintendent job in Atlanta.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Birmingham City Schools superintendent Dr. Lisa Herring is set to leave Birmingham, as she has been announced as the sole finalist for superintendent of Atlanta Public Schools. The school system made the announcement Tuesday morning.
"I am extremely grateful to the board for the opportunity to have served the scholars of Birmingham City Schools for the last 3 years," Herring said in a statement. "We have accomplished so much together and there is great drive and momentum here in BCS. I am proud of the hard-working staff at all levels of this organization. You will forever be my family. I am eternally grateful for the chance to have led such a great school district."

Herring's last day in Birmingham will be determined when she is formally hired in Atlanta. Meanwhile, school officials in Birmingham will look to choose an interim superintendent. Since 2010, the school system has had four superintendents and two interim superintendents.
