Birmingham Woman Shot To Death In Suspected Domestic Homicide

A 49-year-old mother of three adult children was shot and killed in her north Birmingham home early Saturday morning.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - A 49-year-old woman was shot to death in her north Birmingham home Saturday morning in what police are saying was a domestic homicide case. The victim, Mia Heard, was the mother of three adult children.

A report by Alabama Media Group said North Precinct officers responded to the house at 1029 34th Street North on a report of a shooting at approximately 1:30 a.m. Saturday. Sgt. Johnny Williams said once inside, they found Heard suffering from gunshots wounds. Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived and pronounced her dead on the scene.

Heard is Birmingham's 72nd homicide victim in 2018. Of those, at least five have been ruled justifiable and therefore the Birmingham Police Department does not count them in their year-end tally. In all of Jefferson County, there have been 104 homicides including the 72 in Birmingham.
