Birmingham's Smith Middle School Placed On Lockdown

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Smith Middle School in Birmingham was placed on lockdown Monday morning when administrators learned that a pistol was found in a locker. A report from Birmingham City Schools said a tip from a parent led officials to an air pistol in a student's locker.

Officials located the gun and identified the students responsible for having it on school grounds.

The weapon violates Birmingham City Schools policy and the students will face consequences, the BCS spokesperson said.

As of 1 p.m., the faculty and students were all reported safe.
