City of Birmingham: A day before doors open for the new school year, teachers got their first look at new band uniforms purchased by the City of Birmingham, Wednesday, Aug. 7.

Last fall, Mayor Randall Woodfin committed to purchasing new band uniforms for all seven Birmingham high schools. The statement came after the Mountain Brook High School band donated their old uniforms to Woodlawn High, a school that had gone eight years without proper uniforms.

“One of the reasons I support them is because I played in the band, from the fourth grade until the eighth grade,” the mayor said in a video statement. “Bottom line, our students deserve the best when it comes to equipment and band uniforms.”
