BPD Holding 5K To Raise Money For Injured Officers
A 5K run/walk is being held April 20 to help two officers injured in the line of duty.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Police officers face every work day knowing they may be injured or even killed on the job. When it does occur, the effects to not only the police department but to the officer and his or her family is enormous. This is why the Birmingham Police Department has scheduled a 5k run/walk to raise money for two officers injured recently in the line of duty.
East Precinct Officer Tekulve Bowden, 39, was severely injured in November 2018. Bowden was dispatched to investigate a traffic accident on I-59 Southbound near the Roebuck exit.
While outside his patrol vehicle investigating the accident, he was struck by a vehicle passing the accident scene. Bowden sustained multiple injuries including serious injuries to his legs. Bowden has undergone 13 surgical procedures, Williams said, and is a battle to prevent amputation of one of his injured legs.
Bowden has served with the Birmingham Police Department since 2002.
