- Two men were arrested following a domestic hostage situation, according to the Birmingham Police Department. A female victim was being held against her will by her boyfriend. Officers received reports that the boyfriend was armed and there was a second male inside the apartment. (Press Release Desk)
- Afterschool children worked together to create a large multi-colored mosaic mural of Martin Luther King Jr. that captured the essence of Dr. King's "dream" on Friday. The finished mosaic poster will be displayed at Woodlawn Library. (Press Release Desk)
- Erica Daniels Arrington has been located, according to police. She was missing since Jan. 4, and police asked the public for help in finding her. (AL.com)

- Birmingham Botanical Gardens is holding a "Sense of Place" class on Jan. 25. In the first of a new, four-part series breaking down and demystifying the fundamentals of garden design, Associate Director of Gardens Support Molly Hendry will explore how to effectively observe and bring to life a "sense of place" in garden spaces. It is $20 for members and $25 for non-members. (Facebook)
- Last Month the Alabama Symphony Orchestra's Music Meets Medicine program reached over 200 patients with an average watch time of just under an hour. They're so happy they were able to lift up those stuck in the hospital over the holidays. The orchestra gave special thanks to Protective Life Corporation and Medical Properties Trust for sponsoring this program. (Facebook)
- City of Birmingham offices, except for 911, police and fire, will be closed Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. There will be no bulk and household trash pickup on Monday. (Twitter)
