Brighton Man Charged With Trafficking Heroin And Meth

BIRMINGHAM, AL - A 44-year-old Brighton man was arrested early Sunday morning for trafficking heroin after he was found passed out in his car.

At 4:30 a.m. this past Sunday, Jefferson COunty Sheriff's deputies were called to investigate a report of a suspicious person who may have been injured. A passerby directed deputies to a Silver Chevrolet pickup at 7th Avenue and Edwards Street.

Deputies approached the truck and found the driver slumped over in the seat. They asked him if he was injured and he replied that he had taken some clonazepam and was just tired. As they spoke with the driver, later identified as 44-year-old Derrick Crenshaw of Brighton, they saw a handgun in his waistband and a shotgun laying in the passenger floorboard.

A blue pill was also seen on the center console. Crenshaw told deputies that it was another clonazepam. He was arrested for Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance. During a subsequent search, deputies located 55 grams of methamphetamine and 4 grams of heroin.

Crenshaw was taken to the Jefferson County Jail where he is held on charges of Trafficking Illegal Drugs, Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, Certain Person Prohibited from Possessing Firearm and Carrying a Pistol without a License. He remains in jail with no bond.
