Brighton Man Killed In Birmingham Shooting

A 27-year-old Brighton man has been identified as the victim in a fatal shooting Monday night.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - A shooting Monday night in Ensley claimed the life of a 27-year-old man. Police have identified the victim as Michael James Weeks of Brighton.

Birmingham police and fire medics were dispatched at 8:15 p.m. Monday to the 4800 block of Court M in Ensley, according to an Alabama Media Group report. Residents in the neighborhood heard gunshots and called 911.

After making the emergency call, authorities said the residents went outside to investigate. They found the wounded Weeks in a vehicle that had rolled back into another vehicle. They pulled him out of the car, but were unable to save him. Weeks was pronounced dead on the scene at 8:31 p.m. by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service.

Police have not made an arrest in the case, which is Birmingham's 55th homicide of the year.
