Child Injured When 18-Wheeler Hits Birmingham Bridge

A brick that hit a car after an 18-wheeler hit a Birmingham bridge injured a child when it shattered a car's windsheld.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - A falling brick hit a car after an 18-wheeler hit a bridge, crashing through the car's windshield and sending a child to the hospital. The incident occurred Tuesday afternoon on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in southwest Birmingham.

An Alabama Media Group report said the truck attempted to drive under the bridge but was too high and hit the bridge.

A brick from the bridge crashed into the windshield of the car following the truck, and sent a young passenger to Children's Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

There was significant damage to the bridge and the incident shut down the street for most of the afternoon.
