City Of Fairfield Files For Chapter 9 Bankruptcy
The City of Fairfield has filed for bankruptcy after years of financial issues.
FAIRFIELD, AL — After years of financial issues, the City of Fairfield has filed for Chapter 9 municipal bankruptcy. City officials made the announcement Tuesday, according to a Birmingham Business Journal report.
The city's filing said it plans to reorganize and the bankruptcy won't affect city services, according to the BBJ report..
The city disbanded its police force in 2019, with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office taking over law enforcement duties for the city.
