City Secures $7 Million From ALDOT For Paving Streets

The Alabama Department of Transportation has allocated more than $7 million for the repair of Birmingham roads.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Birmingham mayor William Bell announced today that the Alabama Department of Transportation has allocated an additional $7.1 million in street paving funds for Birmingham roads.

$5.1 Million of the funding is dedicated to specific areas including Montevallo Road, Jefferson Avenue, Ishkooda Road and Tuscaloosa Avenue as well as 16th Street north and every street in the Fountain Heights community. In addition, known trouble spots like 24th Street North between Daniel Payne and 39th Avenue North (near Carver High School) will be resurfaced. The remaining $2 million will be used for specific streets that the city flags as a top priority.

Bids are already underway to start this work with preliminary milling and surveying happening in some areas.
