Convicted Felon From Jefferson County Escapes From Work Release
John K. Mitchell, convicted of felony burglary in 2017, escaped a south Alabama work release center Thursday morning.

ELBA, AL - A Jefferson County burglar serving time at the Elba Work Release Center in Coffee County escaped early Thursday morning. John K. Mitchell, who has been incarcerated since a 2017 felony conviction, escaped the center just after 1 a.m. Thursday.
Mitchell, 42, is a white male, 6-feet, 1-inches tall. He weighs about 170 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes. He has multiple tattoos including Bama, Joker, two pit bulls, skulls and a marijuana leaf. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and light blue t-shirt, according to Alabama Department of Corrections officials.
Mitchell was serving a 20-year sentence for third degree burglary in Jefferson County.
