Coronavirus: Alabama Illness Count Crosses 3000
In Jefferson County alone, 555 cases were confirmed on Friday — an increase of 45 from the previous 24-hour period.
BIRMINGHAM, AL — The number of cases of coronavirus statewide grew by 226 in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 3,008 — 555 of those in Jefferson County alone, an increase of 45 from Thursday.
Statewide, the number of deaths grew by eight to 80, according to the Alabama Department of Public Health. The number of deaths in Jefferson County remained unchanged at 14, with 4,422 tests for the virus undertaken by health officials there. The illness count statewide is an increase of 287 from the 2,721 reported on Thursday.
State health officials update figures related to illness count each day on a dashboard. In the portal, officials reported Friday there had been 20,605 tests undertaken statewide with 367 total hospitalizations since March 13.

- Mobile County: 382 confirmed cases; 1,631 total tests; 11 reported deaths
- Lee County: 215 confirmed cases; 628 total tests; 6 reported deaths
- Shelby County: 185 confirmed cases; 1,095 total tests; 5 reported deaths
- Madison County: 177 confirmed cases; 1,084 total tests; 3 reported deaths
- Chambers County: 171 confirmed cases; 267 total tests; 8 reported deaths.
