Coronavirus Cases Top 280 In Jefferson County, 1,000 Statewide

More than 260 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Jefferson County as of Tuesday afternoon.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Jefferson County Department of Health director Dr. Mark Wilson said weeks ago that he feared Jefferson County had the potential to get hot hardest by the coronavirus outbreak, and his statement is ringing true as cases in the county totaled 282 as of Tuesday night.

Jefferson County's total makes up almost a third of the 1,000 cases in Alabama. Wilson said March 12 that he felt Jefferson County's larger population and its commerce and airport made the area a potential hot spot in the state for the virus, which has now claimed 13 lives in the state.
