The Birmingham City Council has approved appropriating $400,000 toward a luxury movie theater project on Lakeshore.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - A project aimed at turning a now-vacant building into a luxury movie theater took a step forward this week when the Birmingham City Council approved a $400,000 appropriation toward the project.
According to a report by the Birmingham Business Journal, Premiere Cinemas is hoping to open a new theater in the former Carmike theater off Lakeshore Parkway. The theater would be a Premiere Lux theater, which would include a pizza restaurant and a bar with auditorium service. One screen would be a large-format IMAX screen.
