County Commission Approves Raise For Jefferson County Deputies

The Jefferson County Commission gave final approval for a 5 percent cost of living raise for Jefferson County deputies.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - New Jefferson County Sheriff Mark Pettway said when he was running for office he wanted to see deputies paid more, and now it looks like he will get his wish. Pettway met with the commission this week to gain final approval for a 5 percent cost of living raise for Jefferson County deputies.

The raise, according to Pettway, is to allow the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office to be competitive with surrounding agencies. Pettway said he wants to be able to recruit and retain quality personnel, and the raise in salary helps with recruiting efforts.
