400 New COVID-19 Cases Bring Alabama Total Past 11,000
More than 11,000 people have been diagnosed with the coronavirus in Alabama, as the state reports more than 400 new cases.
MONTGOMERY, AL — New cases of COVID-19 in Alabama dropped Wednesday after three days of increased numbers, but the state reported 401 new cases Thursday, passing 11,000 total cases as of Thursday evening. The Alabama Department of Public Health has confirmed 11,101 cases of the virus, with 473 deaths.
The ADPH confirmed 264 new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday, which was the first time this week that thew state recorded a lower number of new cases than the previous day, but then Thursday reported the highest number of new cases since the pandemic began. In fact, four of the five highest new case totals in the state have come since Gov. Kay Ivey amended her stay-at-home order at the end of April.

- May 10: 253 new cases

Montgomery has been identified nationally as a COVID-19 hotspot, placed on a recent White House list of "places to watch."

Montgomery County has seen a spike in cases and fatalities in the last week, posting the third highest COVID-19 case total in the state, and highest increase percentage-wise this week.
Here are the states with the most COVID-19 cases:
- Mobile County: 1,599 confirmed cases; 13,561 total tests; 97 deaths
- Jefferson County: 1,224 confirmed cases; 25,749 total tests; 69 deaths
- Montgomery County: 735 confirmed cases; 4,868 total tests; 20 deaths
- Marshall County: 593 confirmed cases; 4,109 total tests; 9 deaths
- Lee County: 443 confirmed cases; 4,240 total tests; 30 deaths
