COVID-19 Hospitalizations In Alabama Reach All-Time High

The Alabama Department of Public Health has confirmed 919 COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized statewide.

MONTGOMERY, AL — As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, and Alabama becoming a hot spot for the virus, the state has confirmed nearly 1,000 deaths from the virus. The Alabama Department of Public Health reported Monday that 986 people have now died from COVID-19, and a record-high number of patients are currently hospitalized with the virus.

Total, the state has confirmed 44,375 cases of the virus statewide since testing began in March. Of those cases, 22,082 are presumed to have recovered from the virus. In the last two weeks, 13,727 cases have been confirmed.

Hospitalizations from COVID-19 are at an all-time high in Alabama, as the state reported Monday that 919 patients are in Alabama hospitals with the virus.

Jefferson County continues to lead all counties in total cases, and added 189 more cases to its total Monday. That new case total was more than twice as high as any other county in the state.

Jefferson County's total of 5,410 COVID-19 cases is more than 1,000 higher than both Montgomery County and Mobile County, which have the second and third highest case totals, respectively.

The counties reporting the most new cases Monday:

  • Jefferson County: 189 new cases; 5,410 total
  • Madison County: 61 new cases; 1,491 total
  • Shelby County: 50 new cases; 1,334 total
  • Escambia County: 46 new cases; 396 total
  • Mobile County: 40 new cases; 4,129 total
