Crash With Train In Birmingham Leaves 2 Motorists Dead

A crash between a vehicle and a train in Birmingham's West End Saturday evening left two people dead.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Two motorists are dead after a vehicle in which they were traveling hit a train in Birmingham's West End neighborhood over the weekend. The incident occurred December 15 at 6:01 p.m. at 17th Street S.W. and 17th Place.

A report by Alabama Media Group said a man and a woman were both ejected from the vehicle upon impact. They were pronounced dead on the scene.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as Lloyd Ree Orr Jr., 45, of Bessemer, and Kristi Venise Cook, 35, of Birmingham. Birmingham police said the railroad crossing arms were down when the crash happened. Three other vehicles had already driven around the crossing arms just prior to Orr and Cook getting struck.
