Dead Body Prompts Homicide Investigation

While investigating a fire on the side of a road in Minor, Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies discovered a dead body Saturday night.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Jefferson County Sheriff’s detectives have upgraded a death investigation to a homicide investigation after a body was discovered late Saturday night. At approximately 11:15 pm February 24, deputies responded to a report of a fire off the side of the road in the 300 block of Mulga Loop Road near the Minor Community.

Once the fire was extinguished, deputies discovered the remains of a deceased adult male. This morning the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 29-year-old Monty Lewayne Davis of Birmingham. Evidence indicates Davis had been shot elsewhere and then dumped off the side of Mulga Loop Road. It is believed the fire was set in an attempt to conceal the crime.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office asks that anyone with any information regarding this incident contact the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office at 205-325-1459.
