Deadly Shooting In Ensley Under Investigation: Police

The Birmingham Police Department is investigating a homicide in Ensley that happened Thursday afternoon.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Birmingham police are investigating a deadly shooting in Ensley, which investigators say was the result of a verbal altercation around 4 p.m. Thursday. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 18-year-old Aaron Romel Johnson.

Sgt. Johnny Williams of the Birmingham Police Department said officers found a gunshot victim lying in the walkway in the 2300 block of 27th Street, and the victim was unresponsive. Birmingham Fire and Rescue reported to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

Williams said witnesses reported that an argument started between the Johnson and an unidentified suspect, and the suspect shot Johnson and fled the scene on foot.
