Deadly Shooting Under Investigation In West Birmingham
A man was shot and killed while sitting on the porch of a home in west Birmingham Saturday night.
BIRMINGHAM, AL — A homicide in west Birmingham is under investigation after police found a man shot to death on the front porch of a home at 520 Saint Charles Avenue Saturday night. The incident occurred around 10 p.m.
West Precinct officers found the man unresponsive witting upright in a chair on the porch of the home, according to Sgt. Rod Mauldin of the Birmingham Police Department. The victim, identified as 63-year-old Levert Mickens, was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The preliminary investigation indicates the victim was involved in some form of an altercation with the suspect prior to him being shot," Mauldin said. "The Birmingham Police Department has a person of interest in custody for further questioning."
