2 Deadly Shootings In West Birmingham Under Investigation
Shootings Thursday and Friday in west Birmingham claimed the lives of two men.
BIRMINGHAM, AL — Two fatal shootings in west Birmingham in two days are under investigation. A shooting Thursday claimed the life of 22-year-old Robert Lee Prowell Jr. The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. in the 800 block of 6th Street West.
Sgt. Rod Mauldin of the Birmingham Police Department said officers arrived and discovered Prowell lying in the street suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to UAB hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Mauldin said limited information is known about the case.

Friday night just after 7 p.m., West Precinct officers were called to 17th Street and Jefferson Avenue SW on a call of a person shot, Mauldin said. He said the preliminary investigation suggests the shots were fired from a nearby area and the victim , identified as 70-year-old Larry Pettway, was caught in the crossfire. Pettway was pronounced dead at UAB Hospital later in the evening.
