Demolition Of Southtown Court Could Begin In December
The demolition of the Southtown housing community has been put up for bid, and could begin as early as December.
BIRMINGHAM, AL — Bids are being accepted for the project to demolish the Southtown housing community to make way for a mixed-use development with mixed-income housing and commercial space. A Birmingham Business Journal report said demolition of Southtown Court could begin as early as December.
Bids are due Dec. 8, and the $3.7 million demolition project is expected to be awarded Dec. 17., according to the BBJ report.
Close to 100 residential units will remain on site and serve as temporary housing during construction, and families can return to Southtown once the replacement units are complete in 2022.
