Department Of Energy Sending ASFA Students To Washington

The Department of Energy is sending five Alabama School of Fine Arts students to Washington, D.C. for the National Science Bowl.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - The U.S. Department of Energy is flying five Alabama School of Fine Arts students to Washington, D.C., to compete in the National Science Bowl Thursday, April 26.

The students competing are 8th graders James Shi, Emily Marron, Henna Parekh, Trisha Bheemanathini and Aaron Piya. In addition to winning first place overall in the Alabama Regional Science Bowl, Piya, Bheemanathini and Parekh are also members of the ASFA Science Olympiad Team that won 2nd place overall in the Alabama State Science Olympiad Tournament held at Auburn University on March 31.

“The National Science Bowl continues to be one of the premier academic competitions across the country and prepares America's students for future successes in some of the world’s fastest growing fields in science, technology, and engineering,” said U.S. Secretary of Energy Rick Perry. “I am proud to oversee a Department that provides such a unique and empowering opportunity for our nation’s students, and I am honored to congratulate Alabama School of Fine Arts in advancing to the National Finals, where they will continue to showcase their talents as the top minds in math and science.”
