Distance Learning Plan Released By Jefferson County Schools

The Jefferson County school system released its plan for distance learning amid the coronavirus pandemic.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Jefferson County Superintendent Walter Gonsoulin announced Friday that the plan for the system's distance learning curriculum is available, as the system's 57 schools prepare to finish out the remainder of the academic year outside the classroom.

Gov. Kay Ivey announced last week that all of Alabama's K-12 schools would close to students for the remainder of the 2019-20 academic year, leaving students to complete the school year via distance learning.

Gonsoulin said in his press conference Friday that teachers in the system have reached out to parents to make sure students have access to the internet and a device.

"If they don’t, teachers we have a plan which would include other means of instruction including work packets," Gonsoulin said. He stressed to seniors that they will graduate if they have done the work.
