Doug Jones Will Publish Book About Birmingham Church Bombing

Senator Doug Jones will publish a book detailing the effects of the 1963 16th Street Baptist Church bombing.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Senator Doug Jones will publish a book with All Points Books entitled, "Bending Towards Justice: The Birmingham Church Bombing that Changed the Course of Civil Rights." In the book, Jones chronicles the decades-long fight to avenge the victims of the infamous 16th Street Baptist Church bombing in Birmingham, culminating in his prosecution of the last living bombers.

Jones also shares insights on his 2017 victorious Senate campaign, which made national and global headlines. The book will be published in January 2019 and available in hardcover, ebook, and audio formats.

A life-long resident of Alabama, Jones grew up during the tumultuous era of public school desegregation. He went on to serve as the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Alabama beginning in 1997. During his tenure as U.S. Attorney, Jones successfully prosecuted two of the four men responsible for the tragic 1963 16th Street Baptist Church bombings.

In the book, written with veteran journalist Greg Truman and with a Foreword by Rick Bragg, Jones gives a detailed account of the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing, its immediate aftermath, and the investigations and trials that followed over the next 40 years, culminating in his successful conviction of two of the perpetrators.
