Downtown Birmingham Bar Closes, Owner Expects To Reopen

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A bar in Birmingham's Loft District has closed. However, the owner says expects to open another establishment with a different concept in the same spot.

1st and 23rd, which is located at 2300 First Ave. N., opened in 2006 as Steel 1st and 23rd. It changed names in 2017 to 1st and 23rd, which was the bar's previous name when it opened in 2003 under a different ownership group.

Owner James Finley told the Birmingham Business Journal that his plan is to reopen a new concept in the space.

Finley also owns Havana on 1st, a cigar bar that opened earlier this year.
