Driver Killed In Weekend Crash On I-459 Identified
Authorities have identified the man killed in a wrong-way driving crash on Interstate 459 early Saturday morning.
BIRMINGHAM, AL - A man killed in a crash at the intersection of I-459 and US. 280 over the weekend has been identified by authorities. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Kendrick Lee Campbell, 31, from Tuscaloosa.
The crash happened at 4:59 a.m. Saturday, according to a report by Alabama Media Group. Authorities said Campbell was driving a black Chevrolet Camaro southbound in the northbound lanes. The Camaro collided with the tractor trailer head-on. The truck driver told investigators he tried to veer to avoid the collision but was unable to do so.
Campbell was taken to Grandview Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 5:51 a.m. The driver of the tractor trailer was not seriously injured but was also transported to Grandview Medical Center, troopers said.
