1 Killed In Ensley Shooting; Off-Duty Birmingham Officer Injured

A shooting in Ensley left one man dead and five injured, including an off-duty Birmingham police officer.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A fatal shooting in Ensley Sunday night left one man dead and five others injured, including an off-duty Birmingham police officer. The incident occurred just before midnight at the #1 Stunnas Motorsports Club located at 426 18th Street.

Sgt, Rod Mauldin of the Birmingham Police Department said officers arrived to discover multiple individuals wounded by gunfire. Six people sustained gunshot wounds during this incident and were transported to UAB Hospital.

Police were later notified that one of the victims succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by hospital staff. Of those wounded was an off-duty Birmingham police officer who was patronizing the establishment, Mauldin said. The off-duty officer sustained injuries that were not life-threatening.

Mauldin said the preliminary investigation suggests an altercation occurred prior to shots being fired. The nature of the altercation is unknown and no suspects are in custody.

The Alabama Bureau of Investigations will be the lead investigative agency in this incident.
