Elderly Birmingham Woman Shot And Killed, Suspect In Custody
A 71-year-old woman was shot and killed Sunday in East Birmingham. FLOCK cameras were able to track down the suspect's vehicle.
BIRMINGHAM, AL — A 71-year-old Birmingham woman was shot and killed Sunday in East Birmingham, and with the help of FLOCK security cameras, a suspect is is custody after police identified his vehicle.
Sgt. Rod Mauldin of the Birmingham Police Department said the shooting occurred just after 9 p.m. on Brussels Circle. Mauldin said Javanna Cotton Owens was walking in her neighborhood when she approached a vehicle and was then shot by an occupant of the vehicle.
Mauldin said FLOCK cameras recorded the license plate of the vehicle before it left the scene and police were able to locate and detain suspect in the case.
