Explosion In East Lake: Second Victim Dies

BIRMINGHAM, AL — An explosion last week in Birmingham's East Lake neighborhood has claimed another life. Larry Bush, 53, died Friday from injuries sustained in the explosion.

Bush and 49-year-old Boris Reynolds are the two fatalities in the incident, which occurred Nov. 5 in the 400 block of 80th Street South. Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived at the scene just after 7 p.m. to find a van had exploded. The explosion also caused damage to a nearby home.

Reynolds was pronounced dead at the scene.Witnesses told investigators that Reynolds and Bush were working with oxygen tanks right before the explosion. The incident has been ruled an accident by investigators.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched for the family of Bush, who leaves behind a wife and two children. The campaign has a $5,000 goal.

"After the unexpected tragedy someone broke into their home and stole valuables belonging to the family," says campaign organizer Latoshia Belser. "We are asking for your help during this time for the bereaved family in their time of need."
