Fairfield Man Becomes 100th Birmingham Homicide Victim This Year
A 39-year-old Fairfield man was shot and killed in Ensley Sunday night. This was the 100th homicide in Birmingham in 2018.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - A 39-year-old Fairfield man became Birmingham's 100th homicide victim in 2018 Sunday night, as Perry Joe Lewis Jr. was shot and killed in Ensley. Another victim was injured. but survived the shooting.
A report by Alabama Media Group said Birmingham’s West Precinct officers responded at 8:45 p.m. Sunday to the 3300 block of Avenue H. Police spokesman Officer Rod Mauldin said the officers went to that location after the city’s gunfire detection system alerted them to shots fired.
Once on the scene, they found Perry and another man inside a vehicle. Perry was pronounced dead on the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service medics at 9:32 p.m. The other victim was taken to UAB Hospital’s Trauma Center, where Mauldin said he was alert and expected to survive.

No arrests have been made. Anyone with information on the Ensley shooting is asked to call Birmingham homicide detectives at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777. Tipster to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and are eligible for a cash reward.
