Here are the top three stories in Birmingham today:

  1. A Birmingham man was fatally shot on the front lawn of his home on Saturday morning, say authorities. Police arrived in the 1700 block of 33rd Street Ensley and found Anthony Jackson, 46, who died on the scene of a gunshot wound. Authorities say the suspect is currently at large, and the community is asked to call Birmingham Police or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777 with any information on the incident. (WBRC)
  2. This weekend, the Birmingham skyline gained a new sight: The "Landing" sign on top of the John Hand building downtown. Landing, a company that offers a subscription-based flexible living service designed for the traveling professional, recently relocated its San Francisco headquarters to The Magic City. On Saturday, the former "Shipt" sign on the building was dismantled to make way for Landing's new one. Entrepreneur Bill Smith, the founder of both Shipt and Landing, founded the latter company after selling his grocery delivery startup to Target in 2019. (Bham Now)
  3. The Birmingham Public Library just announced its lineup of readers for its upcoming Black History Month event, "Read-In For Justice: Black Health And Wellness." Some local Black community leaders who will be participating include Dr. Juanakee Adams, the first African American optometrist in the state of Alabama; Jerri Haslem, a health educator at Black People Run Bike and Swim, Inc.; Dr. Jaime McKinney, an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at UAB Children's Hospital; and Dana "Lady Woo" Woodruff, a licensed therapist and radio personality on 94.9. The Read-In will take place virtually on Facebook Live this Saturday, Feb. 26. (Press Release Desk)
