Arrest Made In Fatal Stabbing At Birmingham Homeless Shelter
Police have arrested a suspect in a fatal stabbing at a homeless shelter in Birmingham.
BIRMINGHAM, AL — A stabbing at the Firehouse Shelter at 626 2nd Ave North in Birmingham left one victim dead. The incident occurred early Saturday morning.
Sgt. Rod Mauldin of the Birmingham Police Department said officers responded to the stabbing around 3 a.m. Saturday and found the victim, Quavion Blair, in the lobby area of the shelter with multiple lacerations and puncture wounds. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene.
Mauldin said the preliminary investigation suggests the victim was stabbed multiple times by another resident of the shelter. Eugene Antonio Pettaway, 31, was taken into custody at the Greyhound bus station and then taken to the hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries.

He was booked into the Jefferson County Jail Sunday night with bond set at $250,000 for his murder charge.
