Father Charged In Death Of Bessemer Infant

A man was charged this week with murder in the death of his 5-week-old son.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL — A Hueytown man is charged with capital murder in the death of his 5-week-old son. Quinton Artez Arnold was taken into custody Tuesday by the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, according to an Alabama Media Group report.

The child, Kamari Whitt, was injured Wednesday, Jan. 27, in the 300 block of West Lake Circle in Bessemer. Medical officials said the child was suffering from head injuries "consistent with being shaken or struck" when he arrived at the hospital. He was pronounced dead at Children's of Alabama Saturday.

Arnold was initially charged with aggravated child abuse. He was released from Jefferson County Jail Friday.

Arnold was arrested in Troy, according to the Al.com report, and is being held in the Montgomery County Detention Center pending extradition to Jefferson County.
