Fight Inside Birmingham Home Leaves One Man Dead
One man is dead and another in jail after a fight in a Birmingham apartment Wednesday.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - An altercation inside a Birmingham apartment Wednesday left one man dead and another in jail with manslaughter charges. Marcus Burt, 35, is in police custody. Birmingham police on Wednesday night identified the victim as 41-year-old Benny Bozeman.
An Alabama Media Group report said the altercation happened at 33 Center Street North Wednesday night. Birmingham’s North Precinct officers responded on a report of a fight outside the apartment complex. Sgt. Johnny Williams said upon arrival officers found the altercation had moved inside the apartment.
Bozeman was reportedly found inside the apartment. Birmingham firefighters reported to the scene along with officials from the coroner’s office and pronounced the victim dead. Police have not said how he was killed.

The apartment showed signs of the struggle that had taken place inside. There were multiple holes in the wall, both in the living room and the bathroom.
A witness said his friend shouldn’t be charged with any crime. “I’m 68-years-old and that man was protecting me,’’ he said.

Burt is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on $60,000 bond.
