Fire Causes Power Outages In Downtown Birmingham
An electrical vault caught on fire downtown, causing power outages throughout the area.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - A fire in an electrical vault in downtown Birmingham has caused a significant power outage in the area Wednesday afternoon.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue reported just after 3 p.m. that traffic lights are off in the entire affected area - which includes the 20th Street North and 3rd Avenue North block.
Alabama Power expects power to be restored by 8 p.m. The power company urged residents traveling downtown to be safe.

City officials said power was turned off to ensure public safety following the fire. Police are being stationed throughtout the city to control traffic.
