Fire In Lakeview Destroys Apartment Building, Law Office

A two-alarm fire at an apartment building under construction caused the evacuation of several nearby residents.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - A fire early Thursday morning in Birmingham's Lakeview district caused the complete loss of an apartment building under construction and an adjacent law office. As well, one fire fighter was hospitalized with a broken leg.

The blaze began some time around 12:30 a.m. Thursday, according to a report by ABC 33/40. The two-alarm fire was out but with some hot spots at 7 a.m., with fire and police still on the scene.

A nearby apartment building, Metropolitan Apartments, was evacuated as a precaution. Reports say Alabama Power had to cut the power to their building, displacing roughly 30 people.
