Fireworks, Celebratory Gunfire Illegal In Birmingham: Police

The Birmingham Police Department wants to remind citizens that fireworks and celebratory gunfire are illegal within the city limits.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — With July 4 in just a few days, people prepare to celebrate with cookouts, sparklers, family and friend gatherings, ice cream and more. Unfortunately, some choose to celebrate by firing guns into the air, which Birmingham police say is illegal in the city limits.

In fact, fireworks are also illegal, unless a permit has been granted by the city.

"Celebratory gunfire can prove to be fatal if a person or pet is struck by a falling projectile," said Sgt. Rod Mauldin of the Birmingham Police Department. "Fireworks are classified as a noise nuisance and can cause injury as well as property damage."
